Parkinson's Support Group
of Orange Park

& Orange Park Care Givers
Support Group

The Parkinson's Support Group of Orange Park was formed in September 2014. Stan Harris is the original founder of the group and was the group's leader until December 2021.

Stan moved to Virginia to be closer to his family and, turned over the leadership to Gregg and Lita Hummer. Gregg planned on having monthly meetings and keeping everything pretty much the way it was. Lita, on the other hand, had different ideas. We still had educational speakers, but she added new twists: bingo games, bowling, picnics, and of course, the Pre-Holiday BBQ. Our group is a closely knit family that includes people with Parkinson's, spouses, and loved ones. Even those who have lost their loved ones continue to participate in our activities and remain a part of our family.

We welcome all to our meetings and activities, we may be challenged, but we are not defeated.

The Orange Park/ Clay County, Parkinson's Exercise group (Dorsky's Heroes) was established in 2014 as part of the GZ Sobel Parkinson's exercise network. The original organizers were Mike Becker, Tom Dorsky, and JJ Ryan. After the pandemic the Sobol network disbanded, but the local group still exists. Tom Dorsky is the groups lead instructor. We currently have 4 instructors and what makes us unique is all of them either have Parkinson's or is a spouse or caregiver of a person with Parkinson's.

All are welcome to our classes and there is no cost to join.

The Orange Park Parkinson's Caregivers Group was formed shortly after the main support group was formed. Under the leadership of Elaine Balcom, it became an outlet for those that care for a Person with Parkinson's. They are able to share their concerns with each other. Recently Elaine decided to take some time off, Mike Day, and Kevin Wright are the current leaders of the group, both Mike and Kevin have wives with Parkinson's.
